Hanover with over half a million inhabitants is the largest city in Lower Saxony, and also the State capital. Lower Saxony is the second largest State in terms of size. Located on the river Leine and with numerous parks, gardens, the Maschsee and many recreational opportunities Hanover offers its residents the highest quality of life. The Lower Saxony State Museum, the Historical Museum, the Sprengel Museum or the State Opera in Hanover have a lot to offer lovers of the arts.
The city of Hanover has a total of 9 universities with approximately 40,000 students. Many of the graduates can remain in the Hanover region after graduating thanks to the positive employment situation : Automotive suppliers (Continental), commercial vehicle manufacturers (VW Commercial Vehicles), food producers (Bahlsen), banks and financial services (NORD/LB), the tourism company (TUI) offer young graduates interesting future prospects. The number of inhabitants of Hanover has risen steadily since 1990.
